Known to the Kendake family as ‘the farm’acist’ (she is
both a farmer and a pharmacist).
So why did she choose to start up Kendake Honey?
It started with a trip from the UK to Nigeria, where she stumbled across a native honey farm. As a pharmacist, she had always understood the health benefits of natural honey, and knew that for centuries it had been used for nutrition, skincare and medical purposes.
So she started using the honey herself, and shared with her friends and family, who couldn't get enough! .
She knew that high-quality organic honey was not readily available in the market and she wanted others to benefit from the unique properties of pure, unadulterated honey.
Thus, Kendake Honey was born with a mandate to process and package honey sustainably and ethically for sale to consumers.
She also saw it as a great opportunity to combat food insecurity by providing job opportunities for local women across Africa.
She explains: "Since arriving in Nigeria, I had been shocked by the economic marginalisation of women and the difficulty they had in accessing sustainable incomes. I knew I wanted to incorporate some form of social impact into production, making sure to invest in the African community. That’s why Kendake Honey is a social enterprise too – aimed at providing opportunities for rural female farmers.
The best part of my job is seeing real change in their lives! Hearing their stories and seeing what they do with the little impact that our company offers them is truly
inspiring. They express such a strong desire for a better life, and they go for it.”
